| Graham Dodsworth - In Our Time | Review, tracklist, & music samples
" ... a graceful, introspectively pensive album and Graham has crafted some absolutely beautiful songs, all of them topical and current. Dear China, Dreams and Rumours and Excuse Me are poignantly political, yet philosophically so. Humour comes in very clever guises too, with Losers Blues (The Albury Crawl) taking the crown, capably supported by the Tony Miles penned Australian Through and Through which left me wondering just how far have we gone to shirk our ?cultural cringe? attitudes. Live Another Day is the perfect song to round out the CD, beautiful?" - TG, 2005
Akhter Jahan's 2003 Album, "Sharthoko Jonom Amaar" (Fulfilled is my Life), with songs of Tagore (Rabindranath Thakur, one of the cultural icons of Bengal, and a Nobel Prize winner), is now available. This album is for lovers of pure sounds. The style of singing and instrumental arrangements on this album are very traditional, all recorded in Bangladesh, with some extra instruments and digital effects added in Adelaide. The CD is a compilation of radio and LP recordings done over the years. The songs are based on rich lyrics of patriotism and love.
On this double CD from Adelaide-based Bengali world musician Akhter Jahan, we have on the first CD more traditional interpretations of a number of tunes, and on the second album several of the selections are reprised, in more contemporary style. This is a highly successful approach and both albums are highly listenable, and work well together.
Production and recording quality are excellent, and Akhter's soaring and sometimes intense voice is heard to great effect.
