On this debut CD, Melbourne based musicians Chris Sprague and Glenn Kneibeiss explore the concept of crossing musical boundaries, or blending elements from different traditions.
Sprague plays the oud, and brings material from the traditions of Morocco, Algeria, Turkey and Iran. To these he adds improvisational playing in the maqams (or scales) of music from the southern and eastern end of the Mediterranean, where the oud has been established for centuries as the chosen instrument of the finest players of classical and traditional styles. Percussionist Glen Kneibeiss, whose chosen instrument is the Indian tablas, is steeped in the rhythmic methods, beat patterns and techniques of traditional Indian music.
