Queen ebony (Tubi)
Xanthostemon melanoxylon
This beautiful very hard wood is known as Queen ebony though botanically
is not related to the true ebonies (Diospyros spp.).
It is found in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. It has hard-wearing
and durable structure, beautiful colour, and fine turning qualities.
Many of the finest traditional woodcarvings in the Solomon Islands
are made from it.

Unusual Australian wood with light ivory colour with very striking and highly variable flecked pattern in the grain. Also used for knife handles and pen making. Available to bobbin club members only. To join the club see menu at left.
