amazon.uk closure

Our shop on Amazon.co.uk will close in November 2007. The main reason for this is our dissatisfaction with the way Amazon has treated its private storefront owners.

Amazon recently announced that it is closing all "zShops" (private storefronts) on Amazon, and that traders now have to migrate ALL listings to the so-called Amazon Marketplace. This means we would have to re-create all 450 of our product pages on Amazon.

Also, because Amazon only accepts items in the "Marketplace" that are in its own catalogue, if an item does not have a product EAN or barcode that is in their database, each item has to go through a lengthy approval process and be generated a unique Amazon code. As nearly all CDs on Indie-CDs.com do not have an Amazon identifier, it is simply not practical for us to continue with this change in policy from Amazon.

Additionally, the Marketplace listings are extremely bald and give no space for CD reviews or cover art.

Amazon gave very little prior warning about this major change, and as fas as we are concerned, it is the last straw.

A series of technical problems affected Amazon during the last two years, some serious, such as the failure of the Amazon search engine to show listings from independent retailers. Also Amazon have been caught out in instances of malpractice - offering items themselves at a lower price than the vendors, when Amazon itself cannot obtain that product.

The good news is that all items in our Amazon shop are available here, now, at www.indie-cds.com To locate any item simply click on the SITE SEARCH tab above.
